Owner would prefer Burress were still with Giants: report

Count Giants owner Steve Tisch among those who wish Plaxico Burress was still on the team.

“Would I prefer him to be wearing a Giants uniform? Yes,” Tisch said Tuesday, according to ESPN.com.

Tisch said he was disappointed Burress chose the Jets and a $3.017 million contract to resume his career after a 20-month prison sentence. That emotion increased after Burress starred in the Jets’ preseason win over the Bengals, catching three passes, including a touchdown.

“I was disappointed,” Tisch said about Burress signing with the Jets. “My disappointment, I totally understand … At the same time, he’s made a good deal, a very good deal; he’s been guaranteed real money and I would like to see him have a great season. I truly would like to see him play great football for the Jets. It looks like he’s off to a great start.”

Tisch does wish Burress success.

“He can still catch a football. He’s a great athlete with tremendous talent,” Tisch said. “… But Plaxico is in his mid-30s, (and) none of these guys play football into their 40s, early 40s, late 30s, so I wish him all the best.”
