Canadian leads at World Driving Championship

Canada leads the world after first day of competition.

The World Driving Championship (WDC) kicked off with four races Sunday at Harrah’s Chester.

U.S. representative Corey Callahan won the first race, with Canada’s Jody Jamieson taking race two. Sweden’s Bjorn Goop took the third, while Juan Riera-Rosello of Spain was given the victory in the final race after a disqualification to Italy’s Enrico Bellei.

Going into Monday’s second leg at Tioga Downs in western NY, Jamieson leads the field with 40 points. Riera-Rosello and New Zealand’s Dexter Dunn are tied for seond with 30 points each. Callahan is one point behind them in fourth.

Following Tioga, the Championship moves on to Monticello Raceway on Wednesday, The Meadowlands on Thursday and wraps up Friday night at Yonkers Raceway.

Each track hosts four races which all ten drivers compete in.

The last time the WDC was held in the U.S. was in 1995 when U.S. representative Dave Magee won the tournament.
