Workers fear infidelity at business conferences, trade shows: survey

If you go on a business trip, something bad could happen.

According to a new survey, 94 percent of Americans believe that some sort of undesirable activity will occur at a business conference or trade show, CNET reports.

Specifically, 66 percent of people are afraid their partner will cheat on them when he or she attends such an event, according to a survey conducted on behalf of Webcasting and virtual events company ON24.

54 percent of business travelers are concerned they’ll be tempted to spend too much money at a conference or trade show while 31 percent are afraid they’ll engage in some form of illicit drug use.

Some of the other feared occurrences seem less dire: 71 percent believe that going to a conference will lead to excessive drinking and 53 percent worry about indulging in fatty foods.

The survey also revealed respondents’ other concerns about their careers affecting their private lives: 85 percent said work cuts into their personal time and 70 percent said too much time away from home could ruin their marriage.
