Ecuador and Chile to play at Citi Field on Aug. 15

Ecuador will play South American World Cup qualifying leader Chile at Citi Field at 8 p.m. on August 15. The tilt will take place during an official FIFA window, so both can call up their star players.

It marks the second straight year Ecuador has played in Flushing. They played Greece to a 1-1 draw in front of 39,656 on June 7, 2011. This is their 44th meeting, with Chile holding a 25-6-12 advantage, including a 1-0 win in their last meeting on Oct. 14, 2009.

Ecuador features Manchester United star Antonio Valencia, as well as striker Christian Benítez (Club América) and midfielders Christian Suarez (Santos Laguna), Christian Noboa (Dynamo Moscow, Russia) and Oswaldo Minda (Chivas USA).

Chile – which leads CONMEBOL standings with 12 points and a 4-2-0 record, and sits No. 11 in the FIFA rankings – includes captain and Real Sociedad GK Claudio Bravo, and strikers Humberto Suazo (Monterrey) and Alexis Sanchez (Barcelona).
