Buy one poorly-performing Eddie Murphy movie, get a better one for free.
Paramount is offering customers who purchase the Eddie Murphy-starring box-office bomb “A Thousand Words” on Blu-ray or DVD another, free film starring the comedian, Home Media magazine reports.
Through July 26, consumers who redeem the UltraViolet copy of “A Thousand Words,” which allows DVD and Blu-ray buyers to download or stream the movie from various devices, at paramountmovies.com can then select a free UltraViolet copy of any of the following films: “Beverly Hills Cop” (and its two sequels), “Trading Places,” “48 Hours,” “Coming to America,” “Dreamgirls,” “Imagine That” and “Norbit.”
The deal provides an incentive to try out the new UltraViolet cloud-based streaming service that Paramount and other studios are hoping will catch on and could boost revenues for the poorly-performing film.
“A Thousand Words” only recouped half of its $40 million production budget at the box office, so it’s got a ways to go to break even, let alone turn a profit.
