Top harness drivers compete in Hall of Fame Trot in Goshen

The 2012 edition of the Hall of Fame Trot on Sunday is sure to be something special.

As in previous years the field of drivers is totally comprised of members of the Living Hall of Fame in upstate Goshen.

But unlike other years, it will be the last time people will get to see Herve Filion compete as the winningest driver in North America.

Filion earned that title in 1971 and for the last 41 years no one has come close to challenging him until now.

Dave Palone, who currently has 15,171 career victories, should pass Filion’s mark of 15,180 within a week.

Having both men compete before the torch is passed is an extraordinary moment in harness racing history that should not be missed.

Filion and Palone will square off against John Campbell, Jimmy Doherty, Wally Hennessey, Cat Manzi, Ron Pierce, Jimmy Takter and Mike Lachance. Lachance has won the last two Hall of Fame Trots.

The race will also be special for first-time competitor Jimmy Takter who will be inducted in the Living Hall of Fame later that night.
