Nets draft Hoboken native Tyshawn Taylor in second round

After a long wait, the Nets finally got into the action midway through the second round of Thursday night’s NBA Draft.

The Nets sent cash to the Portland Trail Blazers to acquire the 41st pick, which they used to select Kansas guard Tyshawn Taylor.

Taylor, a Hoboken native who was a high school star for Bob Hurley at St. Anthony’s in Jersey City before going to Kansas, where he teamed with Thomas Robinson – who went fifth overall to the Sacramento Kings – to help lead Kansas to the national title game, where they lost to Kentucky.

The 6-foot-4 guard was a third team All-American and first-team All-Big 12 selection, and averaged 16.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists last season as a senior for Kansas.

The Nets, who had traded their first round pick to Portland at the trade deadline for Gerald Wallace, still hold the 57th pick in the second round, as well.
