Carl Icahn teases letter to Apple CEO on Twitter

For a septuagenarian, billionaire Carl Icahn sure knows how to grab attention on the Web.

The 77-year-old Far Rockaway native, known for his humorous barbs, teased his Twitter followers on Wednesday by tweeting that he had “just sent a letter” to Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Icahn declined to immediately share the contents of the letter, saying he would post it on his new website, the Shareholders’ Square Table, which will debut on Thursday.

Icahn, who has been pushing Cook to boost Apple’s stock buyback plan to a whopping $150 billion, later told Bloomberg TV that he’s not giving up on those plans.

“I will obviously not tell you what is in the letter, but you can judiciously guess that we are not leaving Apple,” Icahn said. “I think that Apple needs a board that goes in and does a huge buyback.

“I respect Tim Cook and I expect to talk to him again very shortly,” Ichan said, referring to a series of dinners the two men have had and that Ichan tweeted about.
