McCarren Park Pool to re-open June 28

City officials confirmed yesterday that the long-awaited grand opening of Brooklyn’s McCarren Park Pool is June 28.

Parks Department officials, however, shot down rumors that the Olympic size pool in Williamsburg would have a “soft opening” Memorial Day weekend. A gala opening-day ceremony with city officials is expected Built in 1936, the Olympic size pool closed in 1984 before re-opening in 2005 to host popular outdoor concerts and parties. The concerts ended in 2009 when the city kicked off the $50 million renovation project, which is one of the few park renovations jumpstarted through Mayor Bloomberg’s PlanNYC initiative that hasn’t had its budget slashed.

The pool project is also a part of plan that includes a bringing a recreation center, seasonal ice-skating rink, rooftop café and snack shop.
