Twentieth Century Fox letting consumers buy DVDs off wall ads at the mall

Twentieth Century Fox introduced an app today enabling consumers to purchase movies or TV shows advertised on the walls at their local shopping centers.

The app, entitled Fox Movie Mall, is available for the iPhone and Android-based phones and reads QR codes on wall ads for movies and TV shows, according to Home Media Magazine.

After scanning the code with their mobile devices, consumers will then be directed to a secure Web site to purchase a DVD or Blu-ray Disc title, which will be shipped to their homes.

Fox is offering titles like Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, X-Men: First Class, Rise of Planet of the Apes, Rio and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules through the partnership with Taubman Centers.

Participating Taubman malls include shopping centers in New Jersey and Connecticut.

As part of the one-year agreement, Fox will also offer discounts, games, trailers and additional clips for people who use the app, Deadline Hollywood reports. Fox expects to reach as many as 60 million people over the next four months with the mall ads. The studio will also set up lounges in several malls with TVs showing family-friendly films.

Fox is owned by News Corp., which also owns The Post.
