Yankees deny having interest in buying Premier League’s Tottenham

The Yankees rubbished a published report that they were looking to buy Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Star had reported over the weekend that the Bombers were “looking into buying Spurs for a massive £450million,” which translates to nearly $683 million. But Yankee president Randy Levine categorically denied any interest in buying the White Hart Lane team.

“There’s no truth to the report,” Levine told the Post. A Yankee official told the Post that no body from the Steinbrenner family had been in communication with Tottenham _ understandable under the circumstances.

George Steinbrenner passed away last Tuesday at the age of 80. The Daily Star had claimed that Hank Steinbrenner _ who’d played soccer in college _ had expressed an interest in buying Tottenham in the early 1990s and was considering the move now.

But the Yankees denied have any communication with Tottenham, which is actually in the area for the Barclays Football Challenge at Red Bull Arena. Tottenham plays the host Red Bulls Thursday at 8 p.m. and then face Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon Saturday at 1 p.m.
