If you give it away, they will come

At least that’s the hope of The Collective. The new company is giving away tickets to its first outing — a revival of Frank McGuinness’ “Someone to Watch Over Me” (1992). Well, not all of the tickets, but enough to make it an interesting project, which they’ve dubbed “No Empty Seats.”

The idea is that you can either buy a ticket, or make an $18 donation so someone who can’t afford it is able to see the show for free. This is essentially the same idea as the recommended/suggested admission price you get at the Metropolitan Museum of Art or the Brooklyn Museum. I hope this all works out for The Collective, those crazy whippersnappers who are betting on the honor system!

“Someone to Watch Over Me” starts tonight at Teatro Circulo, 64 E. 4th St,, then on July 15-August 8 it moves over to the 4th St. Theatre (83 E. 4th St., ie the small space next to New York Theater Workshop). Check out the show’s website as the performance schedule is funky.
