A Challenge for Charlie

Embattled Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel may be the odds-on favorite to be elected to a 21st term in Congress this November, but at least he’ll be getting some competition.

Republican Michael Faulkner, a Harlem pastor and former New York Jets defensive lineman, is throwing his hat into the ring.

Faulkner made headlines in 2007, when, seeking to open a charter school in Harlem, he sued to overturn New York’s Blaine Amendment, which bars state funding for schools with any religious affiliation.

The campaign officially launches on Feb. 12 at Gospel Uptown on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd., according to a campaign e-mail.
