Landon Donovan rejects Everton’s EPL soccer offer

Landon Donovan turned down an offer to return to play with Premier League side Everton on a short-term loan this season, Sky Sports reported Tuesday.

The 28-year-old was approached by Everton manager David Moyes with a view to repeating his successful loan period from last season.

During Donovan’s 13-game stint, Everton took huge scalps by beating power teams Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City.

The L.A. Galaxy captain reluctantly declined Moyes’ invitation due to fatigue at the end of a busy Major League Soccer (MLS) season in addition to last summer’s World Cup.

“It wasn’t easy for me. After the season ended, my immediate thought was that there’s no way I am going to be ready [to play for Everton],” Donovan told Everton fan site Followtonians. “I don’t know in what capacity it will be, but I really, really hope that the offer still stands to go back next year and that also weighed into this decision.”
