Marbury signs with Chinese team

How do you say “ill-advised shot” in Chinese?

Stephon Marbruy signed with the Chinese Basketball Association’s Shanxi Club, the team announced on their Web site.

Marbury will be in China next week to join the team that is 15th out of the 17 teams in the league. But unlike the Knicks, Marbury may actually be capable of turning this club around. Former NBA player Bonzi Wells dominated for Shanxi last year during a brief stint with the team.

Marbury, 32, told the Post he was taking this year off then would return to the NBA next season. Those plans have hit a detour.

“The aim of signing Marbury is to pay back our fans and try to win more games in the rest of the season,” said Shanxi boss Wang Xingjiang.

Wang also said Marbury’s salary would not be too high because the point guard wanted to promote his personal brand of shoes in China.

Marbury was run out of town by the Knicks last season and signed with the Celtics for the playoff push. The Coney Island native came off the bench for Boston, who lost in the second round of the playoffs. Marbury could not find a team to sign with this offseason, until now.
