Bridgegate cronies mocked rabbi in texts

The Christie appointees who orchestrated the George Washington Bridge traffic mess also mocked a prominent New Jersey rabbi — and joked about how they could make his life miserable, new documents reveal.

Six days after aide Bridget Kelly fired off her Aug. 13 “time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee” e-mail to Port Authority official David Wildstein, they set their sites on Rabbi Mendy Carlebach, a PAPD chaplain.

Wildstein texted Kelly a photo of Carlebach with House Speaker John Boehner, writing, “And he has officially pissed me off.”

“Clearly. We cannot cause traffic problems in front of his house, can we?” Kelly replied.

“Flights to Tel Aviv all mysteriously delayed,” Wildstein cracked.

“Perfect,” Kelly responded.

The snarky exchange was released Thursday by the legislative committee investigating Bridgegate, which brought Fort Lee traffic to a standstill for four days in September.

It is not clear why they were angry with Carlebach, who leads the organization Chabad of North and South Brunswick.

Carlebach did not respond to requests for comment.

John Wisniewski, co-chair of the investigative committee, slammed the childish back-and-forth between Kelly and Wildstein.

“What it does show is a juvenile, cavalier attitude toward their official responsibilities and joking about the power they had to create traffic and delay flights,” he said.

“It seems like they really felt comfortable at talking about how they could utilize their authority to get back at people, which is disturbing.”

The newly released messages also include a Nov. 12 text from Port Authority exec Bill Baroni, a Christie appointee, to Wildstein worrying about their futures as the lane-closing scandal escalated.

“Are we being fired?” Baroni wrote.

The remainder of their exchange is redacted. Both men resigned in December.

In another message released Thursday, former Christie campaign manager Bill Stepien takes a shot at Port Authority Director Pat Foye — who put a stop to the traffic nightmare.

“Holy s–t, who does he think he is, Capt. America?” Stepien wrote to Wildstein.

“Bad guy,” Wildstein replied. “Welcome to our world.”

Christie’s office declined to comment on the new document dump.

He fired both Kelly and Stepien in January.
