Beckham to spend Serie A season in Milan

The L.A. Galaxy-AC Milan tug-o-war over David Beckham _ which has become disturbingly soap opera-esque of late _ is reportedly over. According to the L.A. Times, Becks will stay with AC Milan for the rest of the Serie A season before deigning to rejoin the Gals in mid-July. His MLS return? July 18 against the Red Bulls at Giants Stadium.

I can’t make this stuff up.

Anyway, Goldenballs reportedly would stay with Milan through the Serie A finale on May 31, presumably play in a couple of England’s World Cup qualifiers, and then return to L.A. after missing the first 17 games of the MLS campaign. Presumably Becks would free to buy out the rest of his Galaxy deal and re-join Milan in the January transfer window.

But everybody is supposed to be all fuzzy about this deal because 1) Milan gets Becks for their Champions League push this year, 2) Becks gets to play what he and the English coaching staff view as “real games” and 3) L.A. doesn’t have to pay his salary while he’s on loan, squeezed more cash out of Milan, and is insured if he gets hurt.

What do you think of this news? Praying it’s true just so you don’t have to hear about Goldenballs anymore? Looking forward to seeing him on the field at Giants Stadium? Anticipating seeing what Bruce Arena can do with Beckham AND Landon Donovan? Talk to us….
