Reggie Hodges now punter

The Jets have signed punter Reggie Hodges to the active roster and punter Waylon Prather to the practice squad today.

Hodges (6-0, 235; Ball State) has punted in eight NFL games, all in 2005. He has a career 37.4 average on 41 punts, with a 32.2 net average and nine punts inside the 20 yard line.

Hodges was drafted in the sixth round of the 2005 NFL Draft (210th overall) by the St. Louis Rams. He appeared in five games for the Rams before he was waived Oct. 10. He then signed with the Eagles on Nov. 2 and appeared in three games before he was waived Nov. 22.

Hodges participated in training camp for the Colts in 2006 and 2007 and for the Seahawks in 2008. He spent four days on the Patriots practice squad earlier this month.

Prather (6-3, 225; San Jose State) signed as an undrafted free agent with the Saints on May 5, 2008 and was waived Aug. 25. In the 2008 preseason, he recorded three punts for a total of 159 yards, an average of 53.0 yards. He punted for four seasons at San Jose State, averaging 40.0 yards per punt on 235 punts in 46 games.
