Eduardo’s flop, Wenger’s rant

Arsene Wenger blew his top after UEFA charged Eduardo over his alleged obvious dive in Wednesday’s Champions League qualifier against Celtic, calling it a “witch-hunt” and “not defendable.”

He’s convinced himself _ and is trying to convince everybody else _ that Eduardo is being signalled out because of the media and the number of influential Scotsat in UEFA. If the Croatia striker is found guilty, he could be banned for two Champions League tilts.

“I find it a complete disgrace and unacceptable. We won’t accept the way we have been treated in this case for two reasons. I believe that you can debate whether it was a penalty or not. For me it’s a witch-hunt that we see and not an objective judgement of a case,” Wenger said. “It singles out a player in Europe to be a cheat and that is not acceptable. UEFA has taken action that is not defendable.”

Oh, my. You make up your own mind. Check out here for his rant, and here for the play, which looked like a pretty obvious flop to me, of Olympic-level proportions. Or see both of them below the jump.

“This case has been ruled by the media and emotionally by Scotland, by the Scottish FA and by Scottish people working at UEFA who think this case is a bit more sensitive because they have more influence there,” Wenger said. “But now the existing rules of football have been changed just for one case so we will from now on challenge every single decision that is made in Europe by the referees.”
