MIAMI — FOX Sports is reporting that Billy Wagner plans to invoke his no-trade clause to nix a potential waiver-wire deal to the Red Sox.
The teams have until 1 p.m. today to complete a trade, but the sourced report says Wagner already has made up his mind because the Red Sox want the ability to offer him salary arbitration this winter.
By offering Wagner arbitration, the Mets or the Red Sox would get two high draft picks as compensation if Wagner signs elsewhere.
