Calling a Fleaflicker.com

New football fantasy league host site came to my attention today, fleaflicker.com. Yet to take it for a spin, but there’s reason for hope, and skepticism. So far, all we at the Tracker have done is sign up for a league. The draft is not scheduled until later. But at first glance, the site shows reason to be optimistic.

First, the set-up, scoring and apparent waiver rules (though they aren’t completely clear) appear to resemble very much one of the Tracker’s favorite fanatasy sites, fanball.com.

That said, we haven’t seen fanball’s new setup (they have free salary-cap option, but the standard scoring, draft format now costs at least $10 per team).

Fleaflicker, on the other hand, is free. As of now, the leagues available to draft in the next few hours are several teams away frmo being filled. The Tracker is interested to see how quickly they fill, and what happens to scheduled drafts for leagues that can’t fill up in time.

Here’s another catch: This site was recommended by those at AOL sports. If any of you played at AOL last season, you know what a disaster that site was (it was Fox fantasy baseball bad, only without the pretty draft interface). In other words, we don’t really trust the guys at AOL to know the good from the bad. But surely it can’t be worse.

We’re holding out hope this site will give fantasy players a decent alternate to the giant fantasy houses of Yahoo and ESPN and CBS Sports. We’ll let you know as soon as we know more.
