Taking it to Broad Street

Another blanking from Henrik Lundqvist. Another win for the Rangers. They beat the Flyers at their own game and answered with some sandpaper in the forms of Jason Strudwick and Sean Avery, plus two goals to seal the victory. One of the ingredients that seemed to be lacking from the Rangers’ game, besides the obvious offensive deficiency, was heart. They had more than enough of it tonight.

Who got the goals? Jaromir Jagr in the first and Brendan Shanahan in the third, bookending a scoreless second. Neither 600+ scorer has been living up to his pedigree, but each came through to net the team a much needed two points. They’re now just behind the Flyers, good enough for second in the division, though not better than 6th in the conference.

The Rangers have won four in a row and five of their last six and will take that streak to Long Island tomorrow. They’re arguably a hotter team than the Islanders … and one with a lot to prove. The proved they could handle the best in the division, now it’s time to take two points from the Isles and vault into the division lead.
