Starr Report

“Cane” averaged 11.2 million viewers – still not enough to beat the season premiere of “Law & Order: SVU,” which averaged 12.1 million viewers and won the coveted adults 18-49 demo.

Also off to a flying start was “House” (Hugh Laurie, 18 million viewers), which was beaten in its first half hour by “Dancing with the Stars.”

Speaking of ratings (cue the throat-clearing sound effect), I wrote here a few days back that “Today” lost 800,000 viewers this month versus Sept. ’06. I should have noted the measurement period I used covered only the first two weeks of each September – and not the entire month. Quoth Maxwell Smart: “Sorry about that, Chief.”

“Today,” by the way, welcomes Bruce Springsteen tomorrow in his first-ever live outdoor concert in New York; today (9 a.m./Ch. 4), Dr. Anne-Renee Testa discusses her new book, “The Bully in Your Relationship.”

Last, but not least: * Eric Horng (pronounced “Hong”) is the new ABC News correspondent in Chicago.

* Tomorrow on Ch. 9: “Live Earth: The Concert Special” (8 p.m.) featuring Kanye West, Rihanna, The Police and many, many more.

* Sunday on Q104: Jonathan Clarke welcomes Ann and Nancy Wilson (left) (Heart) to “Out of the Box” (9 p.m.).

* Rolling Elevens: A Ch. 11 viewer spying Linda Church on the M11 bus – and thanking her for making his hospital stay more pleasant through her weathercasts.

* Oct. 3: Roseanne Barr will be at Comix (W. 14th) for two shows (7:30, 10 p.m.).
