“Sopranos” Second Shirt Theory

Did you notice that Tony appears in TWO DIFFERENT shirts during the final diner scene of the “Sopranos” finale?

You are not alone. We have received perhaps half a million email and phone calls in the past few hours pointing out that the Tony photo on our front page shows James Gandolfini in a different shirt than the one on page six with the story. (Page Six ain’t been on page six in years.)

Is this proof positive that there were TWO ENDINGS filmed for the finale on different days?

Read on . . . Not really, oh, our eagle-eyed readers.

The “Second Shirt Theory” is a cool idea — another indicator that it is not just our government lying to us, but HBO, too, when it says there were no alternative endings filmed.

Turns out, however, that the photo of Tony in a dark-blue patterned shirt was taken by an on-set photographer during a rehearsal.

The shot of Tony in the black shirt with the two-toned front? That was a screen grab from the broadcast. Gandolfini put on new clothes for the final filming.

God, don’t you hate it when this happens.
