Week 6 lineup fix

Put aside the baseball playoffs. Stop obsessing with the new hockey season. Postpone your excitement of the upcoming NBA tipoff. Momentarily cease rooting for the collapse of the college football BCS.

Snap back to reality, and get focused on the task at hand — your Week 6 fantasy football lineup. Here’s some guys to consider this week:

Put ’em in coach

These guys, or at least most of them, are likely stashed on your bench. They may be worth a start this week, especially if byes have you in a bind.

Ronnie Brown (RB) Dolphins, at Jets — OK, so he’s probably not on your bench. But he’s been letting you down since Week 2. The Jets should provide a nice reprieve. They’ve allowed 11 rushing TDs already.

Carnell “Cadillac” Williams (RB) Buccaneers, vs. Bengals — His longterm prognosis looks grim, but Cadillac should actually be able to rack up some yards and maybe a score or two vs. the loose Cincy D.

Michael Turner (RB) Chargers, at 49ers — He’s getting a lot of touches in progressive formations in the Chargers offense. He’s lining up in the backfield with LaDainian Tomlinson, we’ve seen him alone in the backfield with L.T. split wide, and he comes in to give Tomlinson a breather. Plus, it’s impossible to overlook his nearly 7 yards/carry average.

Marion Barber III (RB) Cowboys, vs,. Texans — Another “backup” that gets plenty of touches. He might only need a handful to rack up decent fantasy numbers against Houston.

Drew Bledsoe (QB) Cowboys, vs. Titans — It’s bad enough the Texans can’t stop the run, but they can’t stop the pass, either. Their inability to consistently put pressure on Bledsoe will allow him to get comfortable, and be effective.

J.P. Losman (QB) Bills, at Lions — Detroit hasn’t been able to stop anyone, at home or away. And Losman this season, gulp, hasn’t been the colossal disaster we’ve come to expect.

Philip Rivers (QB) Chargers, at 49ers — Perfect opportunity for the Chargers to let Rivers air it out — vs. a bad defense.

Drew Bennett (WR) Titans, at Redskins — Washington’s pass defense has been unimpressive (9 TDs allowed, 2 INTs). Besides, they’ll be worried about containing QB Vince Young’s rushing threat, leaving downfield receivers open.

Take a seat

There are some players you’re likely tempted to start, but don’t give in . . . at least not this week.

Frank Gore (RB) 49ers, vs. Chargers — Gore has been a huge surprise so far, but the Chargers will focus on stopping him first, and try to force unproven QB Alex Smith to beat them through the air.

Jake Plummer (QB) Broncos, vs. Raiders — Sure, the game is a mismatch. But look for Denver to dominate on the ground, not through the air. The Raiders rank second in the league vs. the pass.

Ben Roethlisberger (QB) Steelers, vs. Chiefs — Big Ben has started slow, and the fourth-ranked Chiefs pass defense is probably not a good cure.

Matt Lienart (QB) Cardinals, vs. Bears — Most feared defense in the league vs. rookie QB who is down his top WR and has a patchwork offensive line in front of him. This could be a train wreck.

Plaxico Burress (WR) Giants, at Falcons — Atlanta’s defense has been stiff vs. the pass and run. But we have too much confidence in RB Tiki Barber to think he won’t do a little something. And we think QB Eli Manning will either lead them to victory or post some good garbage numbers after they fall behind early. But the one prime player that could get neutered is Burress. Falcons have yet to yield a TD pass, but have 6 INTs.
