Coverage in today’s Post

Greetings from chilly San Francisco, where — as Joel Sherman points out in the post below — the Mets could be poised for a resurgence after Sunday night’s 6-1 win over the Dodgers. Willie Randolph’s club has won five of seven since his dramatic sit-down with the Wilpons and GM Omar Minaya last Monday. The Amazin’s now get seven games with the dreadful Giants and Padres. Colleague Mike Vaccaro takes note of Jose Reyes’ hot streak, which has him within striking distance of a team record and is powering the Mets in their current up-tick.

Right fielder Ryan Church also got a lot of attention Sunday, homering in his first game back in the lineup since suffering his second concussion of the season May 20 in Atlanta.

In the notebook, Randolph says either Mike Pelfrey or Claudio Vargas will be headed to the minors and not the bullpen when Pedro Martinez returns to the rotation Tuesday night. We also discuss the impact of the Mets’ cross-country trek here to San Francisco after a night game Sunday, as well as offer items on Luis Castillo and a Mets fund-raiser.
