RED BULLS INJURY NOTES

By BRIAN LEWIS

Red Bull striker Juan Pablo Angel may be doubtful in the initial injury report for Sunday’s game against San Jose, but the rest of the team is slowly creeping toward health.

Angel came off at halftime of Saturday’s 1-1 tie with New England after re-aggravated the strained left hamstring that kept him out of the previous game altogether. He was listed as doubtful when the intitial injury report came out today.

It’s worth noting that John Wolyniec, not Colombian newcomer Oscar Echeverry _ who’d started thew first two games, first for Jozy Altidore then for Angel _ got the call against the Revolution.

But the rest of the team seems to be rounding into health. Fragile captain Claudio Reyna came off in the 77th minute Saturday with a right knee injury, but wasn’t even listed on the injury report.

And starters Hunter Freeman (right ankle sprain) and Dane Richards (right MCL tear) _ neither of whom has played a second so far this season _ were both upgraded to doubtful, showing progress.

In other news, 24-year-old defender Andrew Boyens will train with the team the rest of the week. The New Zealander was Toronto’s first-round pick last year and started 21 games, but got cut last Monday in the wake of three international signings to boost the attack. He played 90 minutes in the center of a 3-5-2 in the reserve team’s 1-0 win over New England Sunday.

Defender Guillermo Imhoff _ who played with Wacker Innsbruck _ will also be in training this week. The 25-year-old Argentine couldn’t play in the reserve game, but the Red Bulls are trying to get together a tilt Wednesday that should give them a better idea of his play.
