Mets still talking after finale

The Mets were still contemplating the roster as they completed their spring schedule with a 3-2 win over the White Sox this afternoon in Memphis in the Civil Rights Game. Carlos Beltran hit a two-run homer off Jose Contreras in the fourth, and John Maine continued his outstanding spring with four scoreless innings. Maine allowed only one run in his final 25 2/3 innings and finished with a 1.53 ERA. Not bad for someone the Mets have deemed their No. 4 starter.

Willie Randolph went with a starting lineup that is expected to be the same one he uses Monday in Miami against the Marlins: SS Jose Reyes, 2B Luis Castillo, 3B David Wright, CF Beltran, 1B Carlos Delgado, RF Ryan Church, LF Angel Pagan and C Brian Schneider.

There were no announcements out of Memphis today on the final roster issues facing Randolph and GM Omar Minaya. The Mets are still discussing El Duque vs. Mike Pelfrey for the No. 5 spot in the rotation, as well as Fernando Tatis vs. Brady Clark for the last bench role and the four-way competition between Joe Smith, Nelson Figueroa, Brian Stokes and Ricardo Rincon for the final bullpen spot.

All of those decisions will be announced by Sunday afternoon, when the Mets work out at Dolphin Stadium.
