Forbes fires Roger, hires Jeff Mayweather. Is Floyd happy now? Apparently, one Mayweather is as good as another. Steve Forbes ,looking to distance himself from another brewing Mayweather family feud, fired Roger Mayweather as his trainer and replaced him with Jeff Mayweather.
ESPN.com reported late Thursday that Forbes switched trainers after Floyd Mayweather Jr. threatened during a conference call Thursday afternoon to fire his ncle Roger as his trainer for agreeing to train Forbes for his May 3 fight with Oscar De La Hoya. Floyd Mayweather feared if Forbes wins the bout it would derail plans for a Floyd Mayweather rematch with De La Hoya in September.
Forbes got wind of Floyd’s threat and after Roger didn’t show for training session Thursday, he made the switch to Jeff Mayweather, who is the brother of Roger and Floyd Mayweather Sr.
