Sanchez’s shoulder holds up well

A quick wrap-up (non-El Duque division) from Port St. Lucie after the Mets’ 6-2 Grapefruit League win over the Orioles: 1. Duaner Sanchez allowed two hits and a run in one inning of relief work, blowing a save in the process. But the outing did wonders for his spirits, which slumped the past two weeks while he was held out intermittently due to stiffness. Sanchez said his surgically repaired right shoulder felt better today than it had since before that fateful July 2006 Miami taxi accident.

2. Angel Pagan continued his torrid spring yesterday, blasting a two-run pinch hit home run to right. Pagan, who leads the NL in hits, was 1-for-2, raising his Grapefruit League average to .419.

3. Second baseman Luis Castillo’s long-awaited return from knee surgery has been pushed back to Saturday.

4. Carlos Delgado was a strikeout victim in out in all three of his plate appearances yesterday and has struck out in all five at-bats since he returned to action Monday. Delgado, who is battling a hip ailment and questions dating to last season about his bat speed, is hitting .091 (1-for-11) in four games this spring.

5. The Mets vehemently denied a WFAN report that they had traded Pagan for Red Sox outfielder Coco Crisp.

6. Non-roster infielder Michel Abreu (hip) returned after a nine-day absence.

7. The Mets improved to 9-5 in Grapefruit League play.

8. Mike Pelfrey will try to bounce back from a dreadful outing and continue his bid to unseat Orlando Hernandez for the No. 5 rotation spot tomorrow in Jupiter, Fla., against the Cardinals. Matt Wise, Pedro Feliciano and Jorge Sosa will also pitch for the Mets, who will be faced by St. Louis right-hander Braden Looper.
