PHILLIES AND METS, BY GEORGE

Really enjoyed the time I spent with Hank and George Steinbrenner yesterday. Here’s the story. Enjoy

The Boss is still sharp and is still involved. Today is my last day on the West Coast for a little while and I will miss Clearwater. Saw the best mail box I’ve ever seen and figures it was in Florida.

The box was a football but what made it special was the box was placed on a yellow pipe sitting directly in the middle of a small goal post. It was handmade and is kind of what this state is all about.

After spending time with the Phillies today I can tell you they have one of the most entertaining clubhouses in baseball. Ryan Howard and these guys have fun. It kind of reminded me of the clubhouses from the late 80s before players started taking themselves way too seriously.

Check out that column with Jimmy Rollins offering his interesting take on the Mets and the NL East. Cole Hamels may be the best pitcher in the NL this year. He figures to battle Johan Santana for that honor. I’ve known Cole since Little League and he is a class kid from a class family. His brother is now pitching at Rancho Bernardo High as well.

If you are ever in the area, check out Sam Blaylock’s baseball team at RB. It’s always a good one.
