Vegas doesn’t think much of Yankees and Mets

Despite being ravaged by injury, the Yankees managed to scrape together an 85-win season last year, and were in wild-card contention until the season’s final week.

They then made quite the splash in the offseason, signing Carlos Beltran, Jacoby Ellsbury, Brian McCann, and Masahiro Tanaka.

However, Las Vegas isn’t sold on the re-tooled Yankees, as Bovada.lv set the Yanks’ over-under for the 2014 season at just 86.5 wins.

Vegas also believes that the Mets’ impact offseason signings — Bartolo Colon, Curtis Granderson and Chris Young — won’t move the needle all that much, as their over-under of 73.5 wins is actually just below the 74-88 record the team has posted each of the last two seasons.

As far as other teams go, Vegas is predicting a let-down season for the defending champion Red Sox, pegging them for 87.5 wins. The Rays (88.5) are seen as the American League East favorite, with the Orioles (80.5) and Blue Jays (79.5) seen as the fourth- and fifth-place teams.

The National League champion Cardinals check in at 90.5 wins, just below the Dodgers’ projection of an MLB-best 92.5 victories.

The Nationals, who had a disappointing 86-win season last year, are the National League East favorite (88.5). Right behind them are the Braves (87.5), while the Phillies (76.5) are pegged for third. The Marlins (69.5) sport baseball’s second-worst over-under, just ahead of the Astros (62.5).
