Variety published its last daily print edition yesterday — lowering the curtain on a piece of show-biz history.
The venerable “Show Business Bible,” which published its first edition in September 1933, will now morph to an all-digital format, publishing a weekly print edition every Tuesday beginning March 26.
Yesterday’s edition carried a headline in typical Variety-speak — “Variety Ankles Daily Pub Hubbub” — with an accompanying blurb noting that “The times, they are-a-changin.’ ”
Inside was a multi-page insert walking readers through Variety’s 80-year history.
The insert included snapshots of famous columns and columnists (including Army Archerd) and some notable TV, movie, theater and video reviews through the years.
