Rail tough go on LIRR

The lingering effects of Monday’s massive Long Island Rail Road derailment west of Jamaica Station will cause headaches for commuters throughout the work week, officials said yesterday.

Work needed to repair nearly 4,000 feet of damaged track will lead to cancellations, delays and heavy crowds until Friday, especially during the morning rush. The MTA said it expects to cancel 11 trains, reroute five and cease service at Jamaica instead of Penn Station on four.

The MTA is still trying to determine what caused the work-train derailment.
