Syracuse star’s home catches fire during NCAA tournament game

The home of Syracuse star player Michael Carter-Williams caught on fire Saturday night while the Orange were playing against California in the NCAA tournament.

Flames started shooting from the roof of the Hamilton, Mass., house of Mandy Carter-Zegarowski, Carter-Williams’ mother, at about 10:15 p.m, according to WCVB in Boston. Firefighters got the blaze under control after a few hours. They believe it began from a wood stove outside.

The player’s family, who had been watching the game at home, got out before anyone sustained injuries. Carter-Zegarowski was in San Jose at her son’s game, which Syracuse ended up winning 66-60.

“Thanks for the prayers everyone,” Carter-Williams tweeted Sunday. “All that’s important to me is my family is OK.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
