Maine bakery told to stop selling Cronuts

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The delicious pastry served up by a Maine bakery is still on the menu, it just has a new name, thanks to a bit of legal trouble.

Little Bigs Bakery in South Portland had been serving up its version of the Cronut — a croissant-doughnut hybrid — until earlier this month when it got a cease and desist order.

The term Cronut was trademarked by the Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York where the treats were invented.

Little Bigs owner James Plunkett tells WMTW-TV the attention was actually flattering and he considered it a badge of honor.

He held a contest among his loyal customers to find a new name, and they came up with the C&D — it stands for cease and desist.
