A man is growing fruit in the shape of infants

A Chinese farmer is breaking the mold with his baby-shaped fruits.

De He is growing produce in the shape of infants with the help of molds that force his fruit into special shapes on his fruit farm near the city of Nanchang in south China’s Jiangxi province, reports the Central European News Agency.

He turned the stuff of fairy tales into reality. Inspiration for the strange fruits came from an old Chinese legend about a baby-shaped fruit that makes whoever eats it immortal.

He began by growing ginseng that resembles a baby Buddha before graduating to little humans.

“Who can resist a beautiful baby? And who could resist a lovely piece of fruit that looks like one?” he said. “It occurred to me I would be on to a winner if I could market fruit in the form of perfectly formed, innocent babies and that has proven to be the case.”

While He’s fruits are on the smaller side right now, he’s thinking big. Someday he’d like to make babies out of watermelons and pumpkins.

Parents are pleased with the wacky fruits, he says, because they’re making children clamor for a healthy foods.

“Junk food and sweet consumption is on the rise in China and making many children obese,” he said. “Getting them to eat fruit in a fun way is important and they love eating the baby fruit.”

He swears that, “local supermarkets cannot get enough of the stuff,” but reports say that few people are actually scooping up his infantile product, according to the Central News Agency.

Turns out, some fruit fiends find them “rather weird.”
