COPS SUSPENDED IN ESCAPE FIASCO

In an effort to crack down on the recent spate of escapes, the NYPD yesterday suspended two detectives who lost a drug suspect in Brooklyn Saturday – the 15th such incident of the year.

Commissioner Ray Kelly handed down the first escape-related suspensions of the year because “all efforts have been made to get the word out to secure prisoners,” a department spokesman said.

“The commissioner deemed these cops did not get the message,” he added.

The Brooklyn North narcotics detectives were suspended without pay after Jaime Ramirez, 19, who was picked up on a misdemeanor marijuana charge, fled their custody Saturday on the way to the 88th Precinct to be fingerprinted.
