Cops nail scammer accused of tricking elderly

Police collared a Manhattan man who ripped off two elderly Brooklyn men in separate robberies by convincing them his apartment had leaked water down into theirs, cops said Friday.

Salvador Morales, 58, followed the men into their Far Rockaway apartment buildings, told them about the fake leak, then said he wanted to inspect the damage so he could give them $50 for the damage, cops said.

“The suspect asks the victim for change of a hundred dollar bill so he can give the victim $50 for the damages,” cops said in a statement.

“The suspect then goes through the apartment taking jewelry and money.”

Morales first talked his way into the apartment of an 89-year-old man on Dec. 24 and made off with $2,200 in cash plus gold rings and other jewelry.

The slick-talking con man struck again Jan. 19, scamming his way into an apartment belonging to an 88-year-old man and stealing about $170, plus assorted jewelry, cops said.

Morales – who lives in Washington Heights – was hit with charges including burglary and grand larceny.
