Netflix just lost nearly 2,000 movies

You might need to update your Netflix queue this morning.

Nearly 2,000 movies that could be streamed through the popular service were no longer available as of midnight, according to multiple reports.

The scrubbed films include hundreds that belong to Warner Bros.’ library, which also reportedly contains pre-1986 films from MGM and United Artists, and will soon only be available through Warner Archive Instant, a classic-film streaming service that launched in early April.

However, some of the movies that expired at midnight were part of a deal Netflix had with Epix and others are just no longer available because of the service’s usual ebb and flow, a spokesperson for the streaming service told Slate and Mashable. And a spokesperson for Warner Bros. insisted to Slate that the launch of Warner Archive Instant is not responsible for the removal of these films from Netflix.

Luckily, Netflix explained, the service did add more than 500 movies today, including “Mission: Impossible 2.” And new episodes of the popular TV series “Arrested Development” will be available later this month.
