Disgraced City Councilman Dan Halloran will not seek re-election

Disgraced City Councilman Dan Halloran announced that he will not seek -re-election today just days after the Post exposed a second seedy romance with a young female staffer.

Already under indictment for allegedly trying to rig the New York Mayoral race, Halloran is also the subject of an ethics probe by council speaker Christine Quinn over his alleged office afffairs.

“Regrettably, I must now focus my attention on clearing my name and restoring my reputation while I continue to discharge my sworn duties as a member of the City Council,” Halloran said in a statement today.”

“After much thought, I have concluded that it is impossible for me to properly do these things and take on the enormous demands of a political campaign, so I will not pursue another term in the council.

Sources told the Post that Halloran was romantically involved with staffers Meaghan Mapes and Denise Batista.
