Hov for the holidays

Jay Z may have 99 problems, but selling his Barneys holiday collection ain’t one.

Of the 30 items in the controversial line, five had sold out at the Madison Avenue retailer as of Monday. One of the first to fly off the shelves was a $2,250 Moncler puffer jacket — thanks to Jay’s best saleswoman, his wife. Beyoncé modeled the coat on Instagram a few days ago, magically transforming it from a men’s basic to a ladies’ must-have.

Other sold-out pieces? A $1,645 Balenciaga backpack and a ski mask that rings up at a sky-high $695. Tony “bargain shoppers” are also snapping up $70 T-shirts, and Barneys has sold at least one of the $33,500 Hublot 18-karat gold watches it commissioned for the collection.

Still, you can’t knock Hova’s hustle. In a statement, he insisted, “I am not making a dime from this collection; I do not stand to make millions.” Instead, all of the proceeds from the collaboration will go to the Shawn Carter Foundation, a move intended to quell calls for the rapper to sever ties with the store after it was accused of racially profiling young customers this fall.

And based on early sales, it seems Jay’s going to raise a lot of cash with his Barneys state of mind.
