Now the Stan Van Gundy sweepstakes are heating up

Steve Kerr isn’t the only big name on the coaching market.

Stan Van Gundy, who hasn’t coached since his five-season stint with Orlando ended in 2012, appears to have two different suitors vying for his services.

Van Gundy, who led the Magic to the 2009 NBA Finals and made the playoffs in every one of his seven full seasons as an NBA coach, is being pursued by the Detroit Pistons and Golden State Warriors.

Though Van Gundy has shown interest in the Warriors position, an attractive job because of the team’s young core and back-to-back playoff appearances, the Pistons may have the edge in negotiations because Detroit appears willing to offer the 54-year-old complete control of basketball operations, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Van Gundy wanted a similar situation with Golden State, but the Warriors would not make the same offer, according to the Mercury News.

The Warriors could then turn back to Kerr, but he remains the front-runner for the Knicks job.

The Pistons went 29-53 last season as a frontcourt of Andre Drummond, Greg Monroe and Josh Smith failed to mesh.
