De Blasio does ‘The Good Wife’

The CBS drama “The Good Wife” has a thing for New York City mayors. Last season, former Mayor Mike Bloomberg appeared on the series, in a rather straightforward party scene where he celebrated the gubernatorial victory of fictitious Illinois governor Peter Florrick (Chris Noth).

This time, the writers came up with something more clever. The episode, called “Few Words,” situated the show’s characters in New York, where they attended a convention for the American Bar Association, at which Alicia Florrick (Julianna Margulies) is asked to be a keynote speaker.

In a taxi scene, Clarke Hayden (Nathan Lane) calls Alicia’s partner, Cory Agos (Matt Czuchry), but Cory can’t hear him because of the traffic in the streets and because the taxi TV keeps showing the same promo — a spot with Mayor Bill de Blasio promoting New York (“New York’s the city of endless adventure,” he says) and Hayden can’t shut the TV off.

Will de Blasio, like Bloomberg before him, become an intermittent presence on network TV?

There’s no telling, but he seems to enjoy the limelight. Here’s a video showing de Blasio practicing with “Boardwalk Empire” star Steve Buscemi for the upcoming Inner Circle Show — a roast/variety show staged annually by the New York City media — which always includes an appearance by the mayor. This year’s ceremony, called “Stuck with de Bill,” takes place March 22.
