PSAL football roundup: Newcomer leads New Utrecht

Terrence Chillious spent as much time on the field as the water boy the first two weeks of the season. Instead of sulk, the 6-foot-2 New Utrecht junior took out his aggression in practice, performing so well he earned a chance Friday afternoon.

Boy, did he make the most of it.

Chillious caught three touchdown passes, of 25, 20 and 3 yards, from quarterback Jordan Paul, leading the Utes to a 26-24 road upset of Boys & Girls.

“We had some new kids step up today,” New Utrecht coach Alan Balkan said after his club collected its first victory of the season. “This was a big win for us.”

After a shaky start, Paul completed 9-of-20 passes for 134 yards and the three touchdowns, and running back Davon Collins rushed for 152 yards. New Utrecht kept Kangaroos star Wilbert Lee out of the end zone. Ronnie Pecorraro had seven tackles, two for losses, and a sack, Michael Lynch recovered two fumbles and Mergim Demhasaj had six tackles, including two for losses.

Chillious, though, was the story of the day for New Utrecht (1-2). Inserted midway through the opening quarter, he hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass, out-leaping the defensive back for Boys & Girls (1-2) to turn a broken play into six points. He also caught the game-winner with 8:00 remaining in the fourth quarter.

“He earned his spot and stayed in,” Balkan said. “It’s hard to take him out now.”

Sheepshead Bay 41, Midwood 8: Naquan Alexander had 59 yards on eight carries and two touchdowns and Paul Fyffe had two sacks, a fumble recovery, an interception, a passing touchdown and a defensive score to lead Sheepshead (1-2). Andre Zeigler also ran for a touchdown for the Sharks.
