Jury slaps granny mugger

A thug yesterday was convicted of hate crimes for brutally mugging two elderly Queens women — one of them a 101 years old — and faces up to 90 years in prison.

The jury deliberated less than a day before finding Jack Rhodes, 47, guilty of robbery, burglary and assault for the two attacks, plus one involving a 51-year-old woman.

The crimes occurred in December 2006 and March 2007.

Rhodes faces a much-harsher-than-usual sentence of between 39 and 90 years behind bars because two of the muggings were found to be hate crimes, since the victims were over 60.

Those victims — Rose Morat, now 103, and Solange Elizee, now 87 — were mugged on the same day, March 4, 2007.

Rhodes is to be sentenced on Nov. 12.

Prosecutors said Morat, who uses a walker, was getting off the elevator in her Jamaica Estates apartment building when Rhodes offered to open the front door for her.

The ex-con then punched her repeatedly before grabbing her pocketbook, which contained $33 and her house keys, and fled on a bike.

A half-hour later, Elizee, who also uses a walker, was opening the door to her Jamaica apartment when Rhodes forced his way inside and punched her in the face before robbing her, prosecutors said.
