SNY to FOX: No Darling

Oh, my Darling, oh my Darling . . . Oh no, he’s not.

When it appeared yesterday that Hurricane Alex might prevent analyst Kevin Millar from making it from his home in Texas to work the Mets at Nationals telecast, FOX had an idea: Why not have Mets’ analyst Ron Darling work with Joe Buck? Darling’s already in D.C. for the series. FOX would ask SNY, Darling’s primary employer, for permission.

Permission denied. “Ron’s contract with SNY allows him, outside of Mets’ games, to work TBS’s [Sunday afternoon] telecasts, and that’s it,” an SNY spokesperson said.

Last season FOX’s request to have Kevin Burkhardt work a few Saturday broadcasts as a play-by-play man was turned down by SNY.

Millar made it in time, yesterday, but FOX spokesman Dan Bell said, “This was a simple case of us reaching out to have Ron fill in for Kevin, to help us out of a jam caused by dangerous weather. We’re disappointed with SNY’s response.”
