Calling all senior citizens — the Coney Island Talent Show wants you!
Organizers are now searching for Brooklynites ages 60 and up to perform in the “Sassy Seniors” category when the show is held on the Riegelmann Boardwalk in Coney Island on July 31.
“They can do anything they want,” said Jen Gapay, the show’s organizer. “They can sing, dance, do anything — magic acts, tell jokes, sing a song, or dance. Anything is open to them.”
Sheepshead Bay resident Stephen Lin Bai-An is up for the challenge and can’t wait to show off his moves. At 78 years of age, Bai-An is a Tai Chi instructor at the YMCA in Park Slope and credits the Chinese martial art with keeping him healthy and young at heart.
“I’m happy and feel young every day,” he said. “Tai Chi can keep you balanced.”
He may soon be wealthier, too. The winner of the talent show will receive $200 and the chance to perform at a Brooklyn Cyclone game, the Tattoo and Motorcycle Festival, or the New York Burlesque Festival. Runners-up will receive $50 or tickets for amusement rides in Coney Island.
Registering for the talent show is easy — download an application from http://www.thirstygirlproductions.com or send an e-mail to Coneyislandtalent@gmail.com.
