Sanchez runs passing camp for Jets in California

Jets players this week joined Mark Sanchez in California for a passing camp named “Jets West” by the winner of a contest the quarterback ran on Twitter.

“It’s so fun,” Sanchez told ESPN Radio on Wednesday. “One, we’re getting a lot of great work in … and we get a chance to just have a little fun off the field, just get to hang with each other and relax a little bit, too, so it’s been great.”

Several players used Twitter to updated their status at the camp, and Sanchez posted pictures of the workouts, similar to the ones he organized for teammates when he was at USC.

“Coolin’ down in the ice tubs after throwing session,” wrote Sanchez, who recovered quickly from knee surgery to participate in last month’s minicamp in New Jersey. “Next stop, workout with my trainer.”

Santonio Holmes and David Clowney tweeted they were at the camp along with Dustin Keller, Jerricho Cotchery and Aundrae Allison. Braylon Edwards was in Michigan to attend a family wedding.

“My man Dustin Keller is having a strong camp,” Sanchez wrote.

The camp started Monday, and the group attended the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game at nearby Angels Stadium in Anaheim, Calif., then the ESPYs in Los Angeles.

“This was actually a great idea,” Clowney wrote. “Getting a lot of work in.”

Sanchez, a native of Mission Viejo, Calif., about to enter his second year with the Jets, wants the West Coast workouts to be an annual event. NFL.com reports Sanchez paid the tab for his teammates to fly out.

“We’re figuring out a way to get everybody out there, work on some routes and stuff,” Sanchez said in June.

“I don’t want to kill these guys,” Sanchez said. “We’ll have fun with it.”
