Earth Day bidders spend big to save the planet

They flashed the green for Earth Day.

A charity auction at Christie’s last night raised about $1.4 million for four environmental groups, including the Central Park Conservancy, in honor of the 40th annual day of environmental awareness.

Salma Hayek, Matt Lauer, Ted Danson and John McEnroe were among the attendees at the Green Auction, bidding on such items as a round of golf with former President Bill Clinton, a five-day fantasy vacation in Bali, a digital print by famed photographer Dave LaChappelle and a ticket to the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

“I bid 80 [thousand]-something on the Damien Hirst, but I didn’t want to go any higher,” Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr told The Post, referring to Hirst’s silkscreen “All You Need is Jealousy,” which sold for $92,000.

Business owner Scott Molitor was in Milwaukee at the time, but his representative won a hotly contested battle to pay $80,000 to hit the links with Clinton.

“I’m thrilled. I’ve always been an admirer,” Molitor, 52, said.

He admitted he might feel pressured to let the ex-president win.

“I’m a very competitive person, but, out of respect, I think I have to,” Molitor said.

Fetching the highest price, $150,000, was a trip with National Geographic’s editor to photograph wildlife in Botswana.
